Good evening families, I hope everyone is staying warm.  I have had enough of winter already and I don't usually mind winter at all - lol. This past week the grade 1s continued their exploration of patterns by working with a partner to develop sound patterns, movement patterns and then making a combination of the two to perform for the class as we all tried to guess what their pattern was each time.  They have also been having a lot of fun creating patterns in their math book with stamps, stickers and paper punches.  The students have some homework for the weekend, which I sent home with them on Thursday.  They are to look for patterns in their home, inside and out, and record them in writing and/or pictures on the sheet that was provided, which outlines the homework. Our guided reading groups are in full swing now.  I meet with 2 groups each day while other students work at a centre.  This is our "Daily 5" literacy program.  It includes "Listen to Reading"

RazKids

I have just printed a parent letter with the new list for RazKids - the usernames and passwords.  It also outlines how to log-in, etc.  It will be going home tomorrow with your child. Julie

RAZKIDS

RazKids is now available for your child for extra practice in language arts and in place of "homework".  The username and password is apparently the same as last years for those students who attended Cranston School.  I am currently waiting for a class list of log-in names and passwords from our AP.  Please let me know if you require this information as well.

Good afternoon families, This past week the students began our new math unit in patterning.  They made various colour patterns with unifix cubes.  They had to relate the pattern to letters (ABABAB patterns, etc.), as well as identify the core of their pattern.  They had a lot of fun getting up and moving around, making patterns in groups through the movement of their bodies. "Why do leaves change colour?" was the guiding question of our colour and seasonal changes science experiment.  The children enjoying making their best guess to answer this question and had fun doing the experiment.  We will continue this investigation next week. Colour and creativity was evident in their "Boo-tiful Creaturations" we posted on our hall bulletin board.  This was part of our Halloween party - designing a skeleton with straws or making Halloween creatures from paint sample cards, which reaffirmed their learning about shades and tints that we experimented with.  They also expa
