Using the Tragically Hip as a jumping off point, our students will be taking a brief look at a variety of other influential Canadian artists/groups including, but not limited to:
-Guess Who
-Arcade Fire
-Feist
-Corb Lund
-Diana Krall

Happy Friday parents, With a full week of school in, the students have counted 9 days that they have been here so far.  We continue our number sense awareness with our daily number of the day, displaying all the different ways we can show that number.  The students also did their own work on the number 4 in their new math books.  They were excited to play several different addition games this week also with dice. Ask your child which one was their favourite.  We began skip counting by 2s as well. The students began learning about the two different sounds that the letter "a" makes and did some activities based on this, in addition to some word wall word fun stuff.  I have decided to do weekly spelling tests on our word wall words.  On Monday we will have a test on the first 8 words that I gave to the students last week and which are posted on this blog.  We continued work on our letters (A, B & C) and were introduced to punctuation and what a se...

Hello Families & Friends: Please note this important message from our music teacher Ms. Thomas: Hello Families: This Monday, May 7th, the Grades 1/2 and Grade 3 choirs will be performing for our Music Monday assembly. If your child is in choir, please feel free to join us for the celebration at 10:30.  In addition, if your child is in the Grade 3 choir, they have been tasked with making a tinfoil space helmet. If you could please remind them to bring it to school before the end of this week, that would be wonderful. Thank you! In Room 71 last week: MATH - Measurement (last week and this week upcoming) Make comparisons between objects (longer, taller). Order lengths of objects (shortest to longest). Here's what we've been up to the last 2 weeks: - we're playing the mallets in music (AJ) - our artist of the week is David Bowie (Neisen) - we've been making shapes with elastic bands (Callum) (geoboards) - we've been making 2D and 3D shapes with clay and toothpicks (Emerson & Anna R) - (Maxim) - we made zoo enclosures (Keira & Callum & Jack) (Building Things unit in science) - we did a poem in music with instruments (Sophia) - we writted about a groundhog (Jack) - we learned how to draw a groundhog (Ms. Klein) - we made "Sentences a Day" (Liam) - we learned what a predicate is and the who of a sentence (Trech & Emerson) - we learned what subject in a sentence which is "who" (AJ) - that "what" of a sentence is the predicate (Anna W) - in club we made mini rockets and launched them with water (Neisen) - (Anna R) - we did math talks (Trech) - we had some new words and a couple were the "ate" fam...
