Happy Friday parents,

With a full week of school in, the students have counted 9 days that they have been here so far.  We continue our number sense awareness with our daily number of the day, displaying all the different ways we can show that number.  The students also did their own work on the number 4 in their new math books.  They were excited to play several different addition games this week also with dice. Ask your child which one was their favourite.  We began skip counting by 2s as well.

The students began learning about the two different sounds that the letter "a" makes and did some activities based on this, in addition to some word wall word fun stuff.  I have decided to do weekly spelling tests on our word wall words.  On Monday we will have a test on the first 8 words that I gave to the students last week and which are posted on this blog.  We continued work on our letters (A, B & C) and were introduced to punctuation and what a sentence should look like and have in it.  Ask your child how to say something that has an exclamation mark on the end of it.

In science we began the study of seasonal changes with some interesting discussion on the topic.  The students watched some great videos and did some fun activities about the 4 seasons.  Ask your child to tell you what they remember from our discussion or what they did.

We began a discussion in social studies about what a community is and how we want our classroom community to be.  Room 71 students have been stellar in working hard on being really good listeners and making good choices and working really hard.  Bravo to all of you little learners!  They also learned about the 3 different kinds of community that there are.  See if your child can name on of them and tell you about how our classroom is going to be a great community this year.  Ask them about the balloon activity too (it was really fun!)

We really enjoyed all the sharing by our "Star of the Week" student Sophia.  We learned so much more about her this week, even that she had a tea party with Mickey, our "Star of the Week" bear and even took him to play at the park.  Thank you Sophia for being so brave to go first!

If you have not yet supplied your child with a water bottle, please do so.  It helps our classroom community maximize our learning time by preventing on-going trips to the water fountain down the hall.  Thank-you.

Please remember to touch base with me if your child loses a tooth at home this year.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Klein
