Sunday, May 6

Hello Families & Friends:

Please note this important message from our music teacher Ms. Thomas:

Hello Families:
This Monday, May 7th, the Grades 1/2 and Grade 3 choirs will be performing for our Music Monday assembly. If your child is in choir, please feel free to join us for the celebration at 10:30.

In addition, if your child is in the Grade 3 choir, they have been tasked with making a tinfoil space helmet. If you could please remind them to bring it to school before the end of this week, that would be wonderful. Thank you!

In Room 71 last week:

MATH - Measurement (last week and this week upcoming)

Make comparisons between objects (longer, taller).
Order lengths of objects (shortest to longest).
Compare the areas of objects by covering them with different materials.
Practice the language of measurement using words such as longer/shorter, as tall as, more/less, heavier/lighter.
Compare the capacities of containers by filling them with water and other materials. Compare the masses of objects using simple scales and balances.

LANGUAGE ARTS

The students continue to meet with me in groups during our daily Guided Reading lessons while the rest of the class, during this time, are working at independent writing, word work or listening to stories on RazKids.

Students are also working on creating their own ending to Ms. Klein's favourite childhood story called "Sylvester".  They are learning to add more details each day, through discussion on a variety of story questions. In addition, they are learning more about setting through working on a dragon story about their dragon that they brought to life in their writing, through their imagination and learning more about characterization.

In science, we have begun our unit on the 5 senses and will do some more writing and art around this topic in the upcoming week.  In Guided Drawing, on Friday, the students were very excited about learning how to draw several different spring flowers in their journal.

LIBRARY - MONDAY MORNING - Please remind your child to return their school library books.

Hope your weekend was restful and fun!  My barbeque's been dancing a jig - lol!
