Hello families,
It was great to meet the majority of you during the "Meet-the-Teacher" interviews last Thursday and Friday. Thanks for dropping by and learning about what and how your child will be learning in Room 71 this year.
The students continued their exploration of numeracy with our daily number chart and practiced representing the number 8 in their workbooks. They played numerous math games as well to strengthen their knowledge of the numbers 1-20. We looked at and discussed patterns and graphing. Next week we will make some more graphs such as graphing each students favourite colour.
On Monday they journaled and drew pictures about their weekend after we shared our memories in our heart circle. The grade ones continued their letter study with the letters D and E and practiced their new word wall words with more fun activities and word searches. They wrote about what they are really good at and what they would like to get better at for our "Growth Mindset" bulletin board, in addition to drawing wonderful pictures of their accomplishments. They are becoming expert silent readers and really enjoying their own personal time to read during "Read to Self".
The students enjoyed all the things that our "Star of the Week" Emerson brought in to share and, especially liked it when he read the class "The Hungry Caterpillar". Thank you Emerson!
Welcome to Fall! Please take the time with your child to talk about the changes they have been observing outside lately as we continue our investigation of "Seasonal Changes" throughout the year.
We will be starting our home reading program on Monday. Please take the time to read with your child. Your child should keep the book for 3-5 days, until they know it really well, before they return it to the school and exchange it for a new one. I will also be sending home your log-in and passwords for the Mathletics online program. This is great "homework" for your child should you feel they need the extra practice. Raz Kids log-in and passwords should be coming soon.
Reminder: Library for our class is Monday morning at 8:30 am. Please remind your child to bring back their books in order to get two new ones for the week.
Also, please consider giving your child a "Twoonie for Terry" on September 28th. The children will be running for Terry between 1-2 pm and you are invited to join if you wish.
If you have not done so yet, please send a water bottle to school with your child. Thanks!
Enjoy your Sunday - I see it's going to be beautiful!
