Happy Friday families & friends, The highlight of the week for the students was the dance residency, complete with class recital, on Friday.  Over the course of the week they learned about Bollywood, Latin and Hip Hop dance.  It was great to see how excited all of the students were when they went to gym each day for dance and when they came back as well, after learning some new dance moves.  Well done grade 1s - your dance performance was amazing! Our investigation with measurement continued, with students comparing which "filled" containers hold more water and which ones hold less.  Ask your child what differences they discovered in investigating capacity this week.  Comparing masses was really fun and exciting for the students as well.  They worked in pairs to find things in the classroom that were lighter and heavier than one of their books from their reading tub.  The grade 1s were in awe with seeing and the balance scales to compare and learn about masses.  T he

CLEAN WATER FUNDRAISER

Operation Cranston: Clean Water Students in Ms. Brett, Ms. Jackson, Ms.Patton/Mrs. Vandertoorn’s grade three classes have been inspired through their work in Social Studies this year.  After learning about water scarcity they would like to raise money to help build a well in a country that does not access to safe water.  They have set an ambitious goal of $3000 which would provide clean water for at least 100 people.  Donations will go to Charity:Water.  To raise money they are planning the following fundraisers: Bottle Drive  – a container will be in the school parking lot from June 4-8 and you may drop off bottles during school hours. Yard Sale/Bake Sale/Art Sale/Lemonade Stand  – students will be selling used toys and books, fresh baked goods, lemonade, popcorn, and student-made art from 11:15 – 12:15 on Friday, June 8, on the compound. Hola families & friends, Our short week began with the students writing about their weekend, striving to write at least 3 sentences and to add details to their journaling to describe their weekend activities by asking themselves questions such as who, what, where, when, why and how, in addition to using "juicy" words (adjectives and adverbs), in order to stretch their writing and make it more interesting. In Language Arts, they also wrote about different parts of their field trip to the Leighton Centre and drew a picture of their favourite part of their adventure to this art centre, beautifully nestled in the foothills of Alberta.  The trip was spectacular for the students in many ways, even though it was a drizzly dull day and the skies were not clear enough to see the Rocky Mountains at a stones throw away.  They painted a water colour landscape of those mountains, while learning specific water colour painting techniques.  What masterpieces they created!  Following

Bonjour Families, What a fast week this was!  We started the week off with an assembly for "Music Monday", where choir students sang their hearts out for all who attended.  Then we had visitors, on Thursday, from Quest Theatre.  They performed a shadow puppet show called, "We Are Treaty People", followed by a round dance that we all participated in.  The students were all thrilled! The students finished writing and sharing their "Sylvester" stories this week and then got to hear the real ending of this old old story.  We started generating ideas for a new story, as a group, and then the students went off to draw 3 different pictures of their new story.  Ask your child what their new story is all about.  They also completed writing about their 5 senses with spring in mind and completed their accompanying art work of a pot of flowers.  Their writing was on the pot with numerous beautiful straw-stemmed flowers sprang from the top of the pot.  The grade 1s
